Jamie put in a commendable performance on her 24 Hours of Le Mans debut, only to see IDEC Sport’s hopes scuppered when car No.18 lost its right rear wheel just after sunrise.
It was a disappointing end to what had been an impressive display from the 27-year-old and her team-mates β€” Mathys Jaubert and AndrΓ© Lotterer.
Lotterer kicked off proceedings and climbed to P6 by the hour mark, before reaching a peak of P5 during his first stint.
The German then handed the reins over to Jamie on Lap 28, who proceeded to make progress from P12 up to sixth place.
And she passed the baton to Mathys Jaubert in that position four hours into the race, after a strong double stint from the Bath native.
Jaubert and Lotterer then each took the wheel as darkness began to fall, ahead of Jamie’s return on Lap 39 for another double session.
The team remained in the hunt for a podium finish, with Jaubert even briefly hitting the heights of P2 on Lap 205.
But that progress was undone when disaster struck after 16 hours, as the car lost its right rear wheel while Lotterer was driving.
It proved to be a terminal development, with the No.18 stranded trackside and unable to make it back to the garage.
However β€” despite suffering the disappointment of being unable to finish β€” Jamie was able to take the positives from an eventful few days in Le Mans.
β€œI mean, [an] incredible first week, regardless of the outcome, such a special place, a bit of a dream to be able to compete here, and we were having a really good race actually,” she said.
β€œWe've lacked a bit of pace all week, so we didn't know if we would be in the fight for anything, especially after qualifying, but just had a really nice strategy, made no mistakes, and found ourselves in a good position, so it was all coming together quite nicely.
β€œI was getting more and more comfortable each run, and finding performance with that β€” and then unfortunately the wheel came off as we got into the morning.
β€œJust a bit bittersweet in many senses, so that was our race done. It would have been great to have finished it, but we learned a huge amount, and [I’m] looking forward to what's next.”
