Jamie’s winning start to life in the European Le Mans Series came to an end during Round 3, following a disrupted race at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari.
With the No. 18 IDEC Sport car qualifying P9, Jamie once again took the wheel for the start.
After a tricky opening few tours, the race settled down before being red flagged 45 minutes into Jamie’s stint whilst running P11, as four cars were caught up in a collision at the Tamburello chicane, including the sister IDEC Sport car.
When the race resumed and pit stops were cycled through, Jamie took the restart in P1 and set about defending from eventual race winners, the No. 48 VDS Panis machine.
The 48 would make the move for the lead at the Variante Alta, but Jamie would retain P2 against cars on freshers tyres right up until her driver change, handing the car over to Daniel Juncadella with 2hrs 40mins remaining.
“It was OK,” Jamie shared after her stint. “I dropped back a little bit at the beginning, it got a little messy at the start of the race, but then settled in well.
“Obviously we had the red flag, then after that we did a great job with a short stop and managed to filter out a little further up.
“Now it’s a little bit of a lottery if that will pay off, but it’s nice – it gave us some clear air and the chance to push a little bit more.”
Rain arrived shortly after and the conditions began to catch drivers out – and unfortunately for the No.18 crew, their car also found trouble.
Whilst running in P4, Juncadella slid off the road at Variante Alta and collided with the barrier. The car was lifted out of the gravel and able to limp back around to the pits.
They would get back out on track and see the chequered flag with Mathys Jaubert at the wheel, but any hopes of a third-successive victory were gone, with a P11 finish in class and P16 overall.
ELMS will return in six weeks time, with Jamie’s sights firmly set on the challenge of one of the world’s most iconic motorsport venues – Spa-Francorchamps.
