Nestled in the Ardennes, Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps is one of the most iconic motorsport venues in the entire world.
While the main draw will always be the action on track, there’s still plenty for ELMS fans to enjoy away from the grandstands – whether you’re camping trackside, staying in nearby villages, or taking day trips further afield.
Here’s your guide to exploring Spa and its surroundings when you’re not watching the cars fly through Eau Rouge…
Wander around Spa town
Just a short drive from the circuit, the town of Spa is best known for its natural springs from which it gets its name.
Thermes de Spa – Unwind in the famous thermal baths, fed by the area’s mineral-rich waters.
Spa town centre – Stroll along the charming streets, stop by local cafés, or browse small boutiques for Belgian chocolates.
Casino de Spa – Discover one of the world’s oldest casinos, first opened in 1763.

You won’t find a huge choice right on the circuit’s doorstep, but a short journey opens up a variety of Belgian flavours. Spa’s official website lists some great nearby spots, including:
L’Art de Vivre (Stavelot) – Fine dining in an elegant setting.
La Cour de la Reine (Spa) – Traditional Belgian dishes in a cosy atmosphere.
Les Saisons de Spa – Seasonal menus with a focus on fresh, local produce.
And of course, make time to try Belgian waffles, frites with mayo, and a Trappist beer or two.
Explore the Ardennes scenery
If you’ve got a spare morning, the surrounding hills, forests and rivers make for some spectacular outdoor escapes.
Les Cascades de Coo – Belgium’s largest natural waterfall is just 20 minutes from the track.
High Fens-Eifel Nature Park – The oldest and largest nature reserve in Belgium features some stunning hiking and cycling routes.
Stavelot Abbey – A preserved historical site which dates back to the year 651, with exhibitions, gardens and – believe it or not – the Spa-Francorchamps Circuit Museum, with a wide variety of cars and bikes on display.
Day trips further afield
If you’re happy to and are able to venture a little further afield, the region has some excellent day trip options.
Liège – A lively city with markets, museums and a great food scene.
Maastricht – Just over the border in the Netherlands, Maastricht offers cobbled streets, historic churches and riverside cafés.
Luxembourg City – A mix of medieval old town and modern architecture, about 90 minutes away.
