IDEC Sport’s car No.18 put in a commendable display at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps on Sunday, with only a post-race penalty denying them a third podium finish of the campaign.
Jamie and her team-mates placed second on track, but dropped down to P11 following an infringement for entering the pit lane after the deployment of a Full Course Yellow.
It was a frustrating end to what had been an impressive drive in Belgium — starting with a pair of top-three finishes in both practice sessions, before Daniel Juncadella placed P6 during LMP2 Qualifying.
It was Jamie who took the wheel for the opening stages of the weekend’s main event, though, as she immediately climbed to fifth while fending off both Manuel Maldonado (United Autosports) and Jakub Smiechowski (Inter Europol).
Virtual safety car and full safety car interruptions meant the 27-year-old only managed around 30 minutes of racing, but it was a successful stint — and Juncadella was able to build on her progress by moving up to P2 overall.
Things appeared to be progressing well when Mathys Jaubert took the reins and began chasing down leader Charles Milesi (VDS Panis Racing).
But the deployment of a Full Course Yellow with 24 minutes left on the clock proved to be a crucial moment, following an incident with CLX Motorsport’s No.17 at Les Combes.
The decision to enter the pit lane after that was announced resulted in a three-minute penalty, and a fall of nine places after finishing the race in second.
Though a P11 finish will feel like scant reward for an impressive showing from Jamie and her colleagues, they are still well positioned in the LMP2 standings after four rounds of action.
IDEC Sport’s car No.18 sits third in the table with 50 points on the board — and they will be hoping to add to that tally when 4 Hours of Silverstone gets underway in mid-September.
